Peonies and Polaroids: The Shop goes live today, one year exactly after Peonies and Polaroids: The Blog hit the airwaves (cyberwaves? News stands? Blogosphere? My sanity? Delete as appropriate) The Shop will sell prints of my photography, maybe postcards in the future and calenders come calender time. Bog stanadard photographer-fare in other words. For finally, two years after fleeing art school, I might just be feeling ready to call myself a photographer again.
There will be no crafty crap. Being engaged warped my brain. Married Me (much like pre-engaged me) sees hand sewing tiny little silk birds, designing fabric bunnies or hand pouring soya candles as something fun in theory but Just Not Worth It. 'It' being The Insanity. So you can stop emailing me and asking for custom made cake toppers. It's not going to happen.
However! As a birthday present from me to you and to start Peonies and Polaroids: The Shop with the sort of altruistic, hippy happy karma that one should launch into these ventures (and to say thank you for encouraging me to do this) I'm giving away a print of your choice.
Just leave a comment on this post, any comment. I'm not asking for something witty or clever or appreciative. 'Oi, gimme the print' will do. Although witty, clever and appreciative are always appreciated and while I might say I'm picking a comment at random... well, just sayin'.
Do you remember being at school and having to sit cross-legged with crossed arms whilst the teacher decided who to pick for the fun thing? Sitting as quietly and as straight as you could whilst screaming "pick me, pick me" in your head?
ReplyDeletePick me, pick me (pleeeeease!).
I would love to have one of your prints. Can't wait to see the shop.
ReplyDeleteJust had a look at your Etsy shop, beautiful images. I don't know you personally, but love your blog and photograpy! I too would love a print!
ReplyDeleteI have been lurking on your site every since your fantastic wedding. I appreciated seeing your wedding updates as I planned my December 2008 wedding. Anyways, what I'm trying to see is that I'd love a print and good luck with your store! All the best!
ReplyDeletehappy birthday, good luck with the shop, and do i get an extra dollop of luck for posting about you, the blog & the shop on my blog, blossom, today?
ReplyDeletetake care, sharon x
Pick me! Oooh Oooh! :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on opening your shop!
ReplyDeleteI love the new shop! So light and airy - everything is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYes, please.
ReplyDeletei LOVE your photos sweet Peony!
ReplyDeleteI'm only sad that I didn't stumble upon your blog sooner in your planning process... it's been lovely to read it all in a few sittings, though... like a great novel. ;)
ReplyDeleteYour prints are beautiful and I know you'll do well.
The prints look beautiful! Can't wait to see more.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your shop!! Love your blog :)
ReplyDeleteI love your shop banner and the set up. Very lovely.
ReplyDeleteGood luck over at etsy.
Yay! I love your blog and I'm so excited that you finally opened a shop! Good luck with everything
ReplyDeleteI am so pleased you finally opened the shop. The prints look fab. Finding it hard to choose my favourite.
ReplyDeleteFan-freakin'-tastic. I'm quite smitten. You inspire me to return to my roots as well.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you have set up shop!! I always love the photos that you post. You are a talented lady! I'd love a print, but even if I am not a winner, I plan on finding one to purchase!
ReplyDeleteYour lovely prints + my new home's bare walls...might just be a match made in heaven!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited! I've been following your blog for a while now and have always loved your photography. and your wedding was amazing.
ReplyDeleteThe shop looks great! I am also a huge fan of your site. I just read a post that you wrote on A Practical Wedding many months ago. It was about how the details of weddings are not important. Thanks for that! Although, I do agree with you that they can sometimes be a joyful distraction from the more frustrating moments. It is important to keep it all in perspective and not forget what they day is really about. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
ReplyDeleteI was reading through a notebook of mine the other day and found some notes about flower meanings I'd written down over the summer. When I came to peonies it reminded me of this here blog.
ReplyDeleteA Chinese princess was forbidden to marry the one she loved. So she sent him a message written on peony petals one word at a time. And during the Tang Dyansty the Chinese called the peony, "hundred ounces of gold."
So there's my little shout.
I have always loved your blog fom the first moment I stumbled upon it in my early days of wedding planning. Your images always remind me of something I should have seen but didn't, never thought about consciously but knew intimately in my soul, like a dream I once had come true.
ReplyDeleteif you could only see how my roommate and i [do not have time to] decorate, you would send me the print.
ReplyDeletepromise.
and cheers to your new adventure!
I can imagine exactly where I would like to put a wee foursome of your prints. And I can also imagine how they would calm me down when I got home from a hard day.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new Etsy shop! Love the images :)
ReplyDeleteOi, gimme the print.
ReplyDeleteBut really, I am so glad Peonies and Polaroids: The Shop is open, because how long have we been begging you for it? Now I actually have to choose a photo or three. (For now.) This will be difficult.
Can I pls have a *photo* of a custom cake topper?
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with the shop! I love your photos and will be back to pick out the perfect one soon (even if it isn't free)
ReplyDeleteOh my! Peony prints! Love it! I hope your shop is uber successful.
ReplyDeleteI think this is great! I love the light in your photos, and Etsy is wonderful, so I hope all goes swimmingly.
ReplyDeleteHappy blog birthday & shop debut!
ReplyDeleteOh, and please gimme the print!!
Will the print be of a rabbit? (pick me, rabbit reference!)
ReplyDeleteYAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! Also: FINALLY. I've been shouting about this so long in your comment box, I can't seem to lower my voice.
ReplyDeleteI've already decided on a trio of your prints for my kitchen, the backdrop for where, in my dreams, I have many beautiful cake stands lined up and fresh pies baking in some cox and cox dishes... the prints will be a good start though!
ReplyDeleteRoses are Red
ReplyDeletePeonies are Pink
A print like this
would be perfect methinks!
Ok, so it doesnt quite rhyme, but the sentiment is true!
It is my birthday this week. This year, I will be celebrating alone, a million miles from all my loved ones, in a Northern Hemisphere climate so different from the warm, honey-scented late summer of my home in Oz. I foresee real peonies in my immediate future. Or maybe red sparkly shoes?
ReplyDeleteOr maybe a serene image evocative of a spring that simply cannot come too soon for me. Pity me yet? ;o)
Joyeux Anniversaire Peonies!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday and Congrats on getting back at it!
ReplyDeletelol just sayin
ReplyDeletejust sayin I would love a nice photo to hang on our sad, bare wall(s)
Oooooh, I am so pleased for you that I am clapping my hands and doing a little jig in my seat!
ReplyDeleteDon't give me the free print, I'm so going to buy one anyway (but if I am randomly chosen I am not going to complain, as I do imagine they'd look good as a pair).
I don't think you need me to wish you luck in your new venture, but here's wishing anyhows x
Your shop looks great, congratulations on such beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Your new shop is very exciting news. I would be honored to hang one of your stunning prints in my home.
ReplyDeleteI love your shop - such gorgeous pictures. Immediately added you to my favourites! Best of luck with this latest (ad)venture!
ReplyDeletei love the lemons :)
ReplyDeleteLovely...and I just bought one of your prints :)
ReplyDeletei love the kitchen-y ones! though all your photographs are beautiful. pick me! (but only if you want to post to australia)
ReplyDeleteI have to tell you that I am still laughing, quite heartily I might add, of the picture of you guarding the plate of food. I may just print that out and put it in my scrapbook as something to make me smile.
ReplyDeleteWitty? Clever? Hmmmmm My cat likes to lick photographs and bite paper, so I have to put all my artwork on the wall immediately or it will lovingly nibbled.
I'm so glad you have opened a shop!
I'm so very excited for you to have opened an etsy shop! Everything is just so lovely!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Your photographs are as lovely as you! Congrats to you for starting a new shop! I just was thinking of you the other day when I came across this: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=21649399
ReplyDeleteI thought you would appreciate it. Too cute! Your bunnies are cuter though!
Good luck!!!!
Happy birtday a little late! I love your shop! I am sure it will be succesfull. You are definitively talented!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, the background of the picture that you posted in your birthday post is so funny! We can see grown up arms trying to catch a little child! I have pictures just like that from when I was little, with the lower body of my mom in the background, doing something strange!
Your pictures are quite lovely. They make me feel happy inside! And as a fellow photographer I tend to be a tough critic but I would be honored to hang one of your prints in my house! Thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteI like "In the Breeze" very, very much. It makes me think of free open spaces, and not of having to do the laundrey at all.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to you! The photos are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteRecalling the seagulls from Finding Nemo: "Mine! Mine!" (in other words, I'd love a print)
ReplyDeleteI'm not witty nor clever. instead I just added three print (because I couldn't pick) into my shopping cart and hoped I'd miraculously purchase them straight away (soon perhaps!)
ReplyDeleteInstead of wittiness and cleverness I'm just going to congratulate you on your new beautiful venture!
I found you via A Practical Wedding. Anybody who understand 'The Insanity" is good in my book! Cheers, and good luck on Etsy!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I would love a print!
Congrats on opening the store: I'm sure it will be just lovely.
ReplyDeleteWithout doubt and sure the bloggofans will agree, that you most definitely are a photographer!! Who needs art school. It's going to be a rip-roaring success,I knows it.
ReplyDeleteBoo.. I was gonna say 'Oi gimme the print' but it's been nabbed..
So instead I'm gonna say Oi gimme the print or the bunny gets it!
(and ps you owe me for the bunny farts!! ;) )
Ooo ooo pick me!
ReplyDeleteI'm too busy attempting to pick my jaw up off the floor after playing around in your shop to contrive anything too witty at this particular juncture. But I sure would love something pretty!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous work from a gorgeous girl. It's all beautiful, congratulations.
ReplyDeletehooray! it's gorgeous...congrats & best wishes.
ReplyDeletexox
comment :D
ReplyDeleteSo you can stop emailing me and asking for custom made cake toppers. It's not going to happen.
ReplyDeleteHA!
Congrats, again. I am so excited about the prospect of postcards!
wow, look at YOU! congratulations, love!
ReplyDeleteOne of your beautiful prints would look awesome on my wall :)
ReplyDeleteDude, after racing off and buying a print immediately out off extreme excitement, I find out I could maybe get one for free? Great! Cause it was too hard limiting myself to what I purchased. But then I never win these competition things anyway...
ReplyDeleteSo proud of you hon!
And re the cake toppers, hey if you don't ask you don't get, no? And it worked for the prints in the shop, so there's no telling what some more badgering might bring :)
It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like "What about lunch?"
ReplyDelete--Winnie the Pooh
{That sums things up quite nicely, don't you think?}
Such a greedy lot we are. You mention a free print and we're like wolves. Your opening of the shop reminds me that I need to restart my blogging. The most creative thing I've done recently is wear super bright red lipstick. Which, don't get me wrong, looked effin' amazing, but I want more. Big congrats. Maybe I'll just buy a print anyway, to have the daily reminder of doing the shit you actually want to do in life. Nice work girlfriend!
ReplyDeleteCongrats Honey- I am so excited for you! Your photos are beautiful & one way or another I will be fortunate enough to own one someday (buying one though might have to wait til after the wedding when the marriage visa comes through & I can work again!). However *winning* one would go a long way towards making up for the Valentines Day Fruit Cake I won at wedding fair a couple weeks ago! ;) XxxX
ReplyDeleteOooh, lovely!! Please pick meee :)
ReplyDeleteYour photographs are absolutely lovely! So calming and serene.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new store!
your shop is lovely ... i have a feeling i NEED a print or two. congrats ").

une trés bonne fete à toi, peonies! happy 1st birthday (at least unlike children's birthdays, you and your blog will remember it!)
ReplyDeleteAs we'd say here... "un ptit beurre des touyous" ! (happy birthday to you with a BIG french accent ;-))
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats for your shop ! (do they ship to France ? If not, there will be only one way for me to have one of your prints... pleeeease !)
woot. pick me :)
ReplyDeletePeonies - am in the midst of my wedding planning and have adored your style, tips and of course, amazing photography. All the best with the store!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful work-- you're such a talented photographer!
ReplyDeleteI'm drooling over the "feather light" photo; it's the perfect image to cheer me up during this dreary winter-- I could just curl up after work with a hot cup of tea and listen to the rain pattering down while gazing at your gorgeous work.
oh.. I never sat quietly and thought "please pick me".. I squashed all those polite girls thinking that silently, and invariably ended up in the corner not picked nor friended.
ReplyDeleteSo.. ahem.. exuse me.. and pick me!
Oi!
ReplyDeleteYour prints are lovely - good luck with the shop!
hope i win =)
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for you, everything in your shop is so pretty! Congratulations :)

ReplyDeleteHere in New England, we are buried in snow. I'd love one of your springy prints to gaze at and be transported while I wait for sun and warmth...
ReplyDeleteYour photos just bring such a sense of peace to me. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteI've loved your blog so am not surprised that now I love your shop too! I just moved into a new house and would LOVE a print to brighten up dull walls. Gorgeous work!
ReplyDeleteI have a very naked and lonely wall that would adore one of your photos. (so would I!)
ReplyDeleteForget it. I'll win. And Aubergine, I know your «screaming in my head trick». It doesn't work. :)
ReplyDeletei so love these prints,
ReplyDeletei write a haiku to win,

ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful, beautiful pictures. I think my favourite is "In the gentle breeze" - I feel like I am smell the wind blowing and feel the springy grass.
ReplyDeleteHello - love 'In your time' - also love your blog - a little oasis of normality and quirky fun in the weddingy madness.
ReplyDeleteThanks P&P!
Emma
Just looked at the shop - beautiful! I love all the flowers (of course) and I always appreciate shots taken of the water, being far away from the coast where I grew up!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the shop, you already have quite the following!
I adore your rabbit! Ive been meaning to tell you that and now seemed like a good time. Your Etsy shop is beautiful. I like the print with the lace edge, so romantic. :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the new shop. I love your blog. Pick me please.
ReplyDeleteI want to climb inside these photos and take a nap. Or a walk. Or maybe just rub my nose against the edges of things and hum.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe I would just like to lick the photos. I promise not to *actually* lick the photos. (But I really really want to.)
So excited to see the new shop, and for more inspirational images!
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling particularly un-witty but I do really appreciate your work. So pretty!
ReplyDeletefree print ? Yes!!! But free postage to New Zealand might be pushing it!
ReplyDeleteLove your work.
Wow this is an amazing amount of comments! So excited for the shop, I am moving this month and I will be decorating with your prints for sure.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing your work out there. It's so soft and pretty, like a dream......
ReplyDeleteI just looked through your shop and the photos are all so lovely!
ReplyDeletei come here when things are grey & the world seems devoid of anything lovely. the light in your photos, the eye behind them is so beautiful. happy [blog]birthday, lady peony.
ReplyDeleteWhen i first came to your blog from Joanna's link,i loved the peonies photo most. The colors and the light of your photographs are dreamy.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your etsy shop..
I LOVE the shop in all of it's loveliness. Please, pick me. I'll give it a good home. Promise.
ReplyDeleteI just sent my fiance a link to your shop in an e-mail that said "pick one, for my birthday pleeeese"
ReplyDeleteLove your photos - am currently planning a wedding in devon - eeek.
Dear Peonies,
ReplyDelete(I feel as if this should be in letter format because reading your blog is like being introduced into your life a bit, and this is my first comment for you so introductions are needed)
I found your blog while planning for my own wedding (still to come this July), searching the blogosphere for brides-to-be and weddings past for inspiration. Finding your old posts was like a breath of fresh air, partly because I'm marrying a British Boy (and am in exile in the USA right now waiting on visas) and mainly because of your simple and beautiful aesthetic.
Now that you are translating that aesthetic and love for photography into a business I wish you best of luck, even though I don't know you, I know you deserve the same luck in work that you found in marriage.
I'd love one of your prints to remember my current experience by!!!
I'd love one of your prints, I adore the soft ethereal nature of your photography. I assumed I was too late when I sw the post the other day, thank you for letting us know it's still open. (I'm used to giveaways that last a day at most I guess)
ReplyDeleteFantastic shop- congratulations on the launch!
ReplyDeleteI adore the subtle prettiness of your images, I would love to plan a wedding using them in place of table names with mini versions on the table plan. They could then be given as gifts, a wonderful keepsake of the day.
xx
You are such a talented photographer, I would adore one of your prints!
ReplyDeleteI am SO THRILLED to see you've opened a shop!!! YAY! Nothing makes me happier than seeing other ladies "do their thing"...! (& Especially since peonies are my absolute fave and I'm incorporating them in my wedding come springtime!)
ReplyDeleteI wish you the best with your shop! A print of yours would always remind me to step out and do what's in my heart!
Emily
All of your photos are lovely! I'd say you should have a cupcake for every 20 posts, and you're up to a lot of cupcakes now!
ReplyDeletei was thrilled to see you finally open your little shop, love. i wasn't gonna comment to try and win the print, not coz i didn't want it, but coz i'm a realist/pessimist and know i never win anything. but your post today made me wanna drop a line, just to let you know that a print of your work couldn't be more lovely.
ReplyDeletexo.
I do love your style! You photos help me see the world is a different light.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Peonies! The shop is lovely.
ReplyDeleteThey're all lovely and you are lovely and your gratitude for everything is the loveliest of all. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope my dreams are as pretty as your pictures.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photos you take! I'd love to be able to call one my own.
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures! Love the Etsy shop too! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteHi Peonie,
ReplyDeleteI just found you recently, but am very inspired. To a rough Yank, you seem all elegance and charm. Thanks a bunch.

I'm sure if I get picked your present to me will have that perfect balance.
Oh please pick me...beautiful work. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI need art in my life!
ReplyDeleteWhat an inspiration you are! Your blog connects to me in so many levels! I began as an Art major before switching to teaching darling (eeek!) 6th grade and have recently started a wedding/family photography business on my own....so I know how crazy scary it feels to take that jump into the unknown! I'm also planning a wedding and eeek! it has driven me a bit looney! Anywho, best of luck in all of your endeavors; your work is absolutely gorgeous and anytime I see that you've posted something new, I get a little burst of joy. Thanks again and keep it up!

ReplyDeleteOooh! Oooh! Pick me!
ReplyDeleteSigh--polaroids remind me of grade when my parents took pictures of all my birthday parties, swimming accomplishments, and family outings. I miss it! Your site is lovely! I am going to be a "Mrs." in 2.5 months and would love to decorate my home with one of your exquisite pictures. Thanks for taking me back to my childhood :).

I've won one cool prize in my life so far — hopefully you're the second!
ReplyDeletewhen i see the bunnies at the park by my house i think of you.
ReplyDeletecongratulations on your shop! i think your photos are so lovely. my apartment needs some loveliness :)
ReplyDeleteLike everyone who has visited your blog, I've fallen in love with the charming stories you've told about yourself and your boy and of course your beautiful fairy tale wedding...I think the pictures you take are so very dreamy and lovely:)...It would be great if I could give one of your prints to my love in edinburgh, whose a million miles away from me now...I really miss him and I think it would be the perfect gift to say how much I'm thinking of him right now...Anyhow, good luck with your etsy shop and I hope to hear more of your beautiful thoughts and life:)
ReplyDeletewhen i was little my Dad had a rule that if we asked twice we wouldn't get it ("it" usually being an icecream. We would be driving down the road and I would see a dairy looming. I would ask dad if we could stop and get a cone. He would say "we'll see". As that dairy faded into the distance, and our car passed several more garages and stores I would be biting into my lip trying not to ask again. Occasionally my sister would see me open my mouth and she would hiss at me to stay quiet.
ReplyDeleteSo here I am asking once, ever so nicely, for a lovely print! pleeeaasseee!!
love your blog and your work, keep it up.
I'd love to have one of your amazing prints on my wall. Pick me!
ReplyDeleteAt the risk of sounding like a suck up... I am absolutely obsessed with your photographs! I want one so badly! After a graduate college and have millions of dollars, I will buy out your shop. Promise.
ReplyDeleteoh yes please! finners crossed!
ReplyDeleteI just moved in with the fiance, his 14 year old boy and their 15, yes 15 guitars.....I need something girly to look at! Please pick me!!!
ReplyDeleteCarla
Oi! :) I wants print?
ReplyDeleteBlatant honesty. Personally I can very much relate to your "fleeing art school" comment. For me, finally, two and a half years after graduating/escaping, I might just be feeling ready to call myself an illustrator again. Selfishly, I would love to own a print of yours to remind me that the most important thing in life is to do what you love.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to you.
allright, i never leave comments but i will because i would love love love a print.
ReplyDeletei think i actually saw you in edinburgh maybe? i hope this doesn't sound stalker creepy, because it's not. but did you attend the showing of It's a Wonderful Life on Christmas Eve at the movie theatre in Tollcross? because i was there, and i thought the girl in front of me looked just like you, and her boy looked like yours, and i wanted to say something but since i never comment--well, i thought it'd be too weird. but i never comment because i know that what i say will never be as beautiful as what you've written, so i simply read and selfishly take your words, and now i'm hoping to also take your art.
i've looked at it and would buy a print, but i have no money. my fiance is scottish--why i was in edinburgh--but i'm american. and i'm over here, and he's over there, and he's not allowed to come over here. we've a lawyer who's taking all our (very little) money (i'm a teacher, he's a student) to try to make it so he can come over here, but at the moment we go months without seeing each other. am i achieving pity yet? i admit, i am trying.
this is long and i doubt you'll read it but i thought, well, if i'm going to comment i might as well properly comment even if it's comment 176. so, yes. i would love one of your prints to hang in my flat, a flat that one day (i have to believe) will house both me and my own boy.
hi peony! i doubt you will pick me. especially since i am all the way in Canada, across the pond :) Though i'd still very much like to have one of your wonderful photos in a print. a girl can dream =D PS i really enjoy your blog and your photos, and that sweet proposal story hehe.
ReplyDeletebeautiful, beauty.
ReplyDeleteblossoms by the sea, light, wind.
light captured... blessed.
just a little haiku for your contest. consider me offically entered! i would love to have a print for our first new house.
hmmm...witty AND clever? ok here goes... What's the first sign of madness? Answer: Suggs walking up your garden path... I thank you. Although if you're not British and don't know who Suggs or Madness are, then this was neither witty or clever. Still...pick me!
ReplyDeleteI love your photography! There is something very sweet and pure about it. Just looking at it relaxes me.
ReplyDeletei want to be you when i grow up. no, really, i simply share a similar tale and find your story and the launch of your etsy store inspiring! i finally started my own blog last month for all the random creativity clanking around my brain. while the site is way far from fully realized, it's already helping to focus my thoughts and projects (and it landed me a designer position at an incredible floral boutique with no formal design experience!). one day i wish to gain confidence and market my photography skills as well...until then, thanks for your inspiration and unique voice!!
ReplyDeleteAdmire your spirit and good eye and only wish for bunnies - more buns! So happy to know that your work will be out in the world and available for your fans to indulge in. I'm a quiet reader but just couldn't stand out in the cold on this one! All luck!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog and photographs. I'd love to be the lucky winner, so please enter me!
ReplyDeleteWarm Regards,
Spencer
A shop is an awesome idea. I love all your photos.
ReplyDeleteTruly beautiful photos! So... serene.
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping I'm entered in the pick b/c I would love one of those beauties :) Best of luck with your shop!
so many comments!
