"Later, I saw these beautiful, yellow maryjanes and decided to treat myself. The sales girl looked at me like I was crazy as I stood there in front of the mirror, giantly pregnant and teetering in 3 1/2 in heels. “They’ll be fun to wear after baby comes?” she said with a smile. “After? They’ll be fun to wear now.” I said back.
I gave up sushi, raw cookie dough, and red wine when I got pregnant - but I’m not giving up my pretty shoes, thankyouverymuch."

I have a confession to make. I tend to stop reading your blogs when you get pregnant
There are some exceptions of course and Stay Forever Sunday is one of them. I love a pregnant blogger that retains the wit, style and intelligence they possessed before pregnancy and who doesn't feel the need to update me on their stomach growth weekly (with pictures!), enlighten me as to what foods are making them vomit today and ohsweetmotherofgod show me every last ikea purchase for their spare room turned nursery. Unless it's a room I'm going to want to live in baby or not, I'm going to struggle to care. Sorry.
I don't really know what my point is here. I think it's just that I want those shoes. In which case I should have probably just said that rather than invoking the wrath of The Baby Blogger. What can I say. I'm feeling a little esb today.
Love it!! Thanks for the honesty - and a giggle.
ReplyDeleteShhh, I feel a smidge the same...AND those shoes, yummy!
ReplyDeletekatherine
I looooooooove this post! LOVE IT.
ReplyDeleteone of my absolute favorite tumblr's:
ReplyDeletehttp://stfuparents.tumblr.com/
if you haven't seen it yet, you must check it out!
I have a very, very similar set of shoes! Love them.
ReplyDeleteLove the shoes! ... and I totally sympathize with the rest of the post. We all have a little esb in us -- or if we don't, we probably should :-)
ReplyDeletecompletely ditto. It sounds terrible, but I've definitely dropped some subscriptions after not-even-non-stop-baby talk. Says me, who is (getting better but is still slightly) wedding-obsessed. A-hem. Hee, and I love the esb-note -- funny how we all aspire to be like her, right :D? It's tough to throw your opinion out there (and risk the wrath!) -- but mm, sometimes it's worth it. And *love* those shoes, glad you shared the post!
ReplyDeletei'm pretty sure the only pregnant blogger i read is kristina at lovely morning. but, i feel like she rarely brings up her pregnancy.
ReplyDeletethose shoes are loverly. my only mom friend, carrie, wore heels up until the last couple months. big old platformy ones too. it was hilarious!
Haaahahaha, P, you crack me up.
ReplyDeleteI want those shoes, too.
pregnant or not, vomit should never make up more than, say, 20% of your posting material. and at least 10% of that should be due to the drinks you had the night before (not a baby!) so i agree. you can talk about vomit and baby bumps if you want (and i do love baby bumps), but it should still only be one side of you. come on ladies! we are complex human beings here :)
ReplyDelete... Yes. Yes. Yes. This goes for Facebook and Twitter. You want to talk about vomit and poop and cervical dilation? Fine! Unfriend! Off the Google Reader! You're done!
ReplyDeletehahaha. is "esb" going to be the phrase for firestarter?
ReplyDeletelove those shoes - i'm so craving them now.
ReplyDeleteand yes...i only read one pregnant blogger. until the baby comes and then i laugh. a lot. because the sleep deprevation makes up for them telling the other stuff before.
This is seriously funny. Bravo.
ReplyDeleteI found one the other day that had a glossary of terms to help you understand the posts and AF {aunt flow} was the code for period....really...from grown women no less.
ReplyDeletehaha! your honesty is refreshing :-) Those shoes are awesome!
ReplyDeletesuch a sweet post! you made me smile.
ReplyDeleteAnd Cate. You didn't give up Cate.
ReplyDeleteand Maggie Mason and Andrea of Superhero Journals made me very excited about pregnancy two years ago. But they were funny, and emotional, and sans vomit.
@Meg, Cate was the first link in the three exceptions!
ReplyDeleteha. me too. i might be in love with you even more now.
ReplyDeleteCute shoes! Yeah I kind of agreed as non-pregnant gal, I always feel a bit excluded when people go to full baby-mode... but what a great post! Love it. Thanks for sharing/venting ;)
ReplyDeletecute shoes. and i totally agree.
ReplyDeleteOh Cara, I am so with you on this! When I got pregnant I tried looking for some pregnant/ new mum bloggers and most of them were sooo boring. I know pregnancy feels all-consuming at times and you want to record the weird and amazing changes to your body but, erm, that's what a private journal is for.
ReplyDeleteAnd, A Cat Called Fidget, when I found out that AF = Aunt Flo = period I seriously started wondering how some of these women had found someone with whom to reproduce. Argh, get me out of here!
xx, Cara :)
Those shoes are gorgeous!
ReplyDeletehee hee! i see no wrath!
ReplyDeleteHaha, I feel the same way about my facebook friends when they get a boy/girlfriend :D
ReplyDeleteI love the shoes; so pretty! I need yellow shoes and red ones too.
ReplyDeleteI like your confession and the vintagesimple blog is possibly my new favourite.
cute shoes
ReplyDeleteomg. how did i miss this post? i love that this is what i find when i search "shoes" on your blog!
ReplyDeletexoxo,
esb
Uh huh, what exactly is your point, lady? ;)
ReplyDeleteI agree with most of what you said. There are certain things that NO ONE else ever needs to hear about. But I think believing that you'll be able to carry on being exactly the same person, babas or no (which seems to me to be part of your point)? Well I think that's a short-lived (i.e. 9 months) state of denial right there...
Although, fuck yes, NEVER give up the awesome shoes.
