I started copying this mobile a few weeks ago. Now that the world cup's over and we're putting the tv away again until winter I need something to do with my evenings. Although mostly I've been sleeping with my evenings. As soon as I finish working I have 'a quick lie down', which turns into a 2 hour nap, then N wakes me and feeds me (he's a good one) and I go back to bed where I sleep for another 12 hours.Which would be why I've only made one bird so far, a test bird. So called because it looks not unlike a malformed sea lion and a lot unlike a bird. I try not to lose heart and remind myself that test birds one through to three for my last bird project bore a marked resemblance to Casper the friendly ghost.*picture from greyhood, via vintage simple

Really eye-catching bird mobile. Looks like you put a bit of time and patience into it's creation. It will certainly brighten up any room.
ReplyDeleteNice job!
i know someone that makes these birds out of bright fabrics. maybe you can buy the birds and then put together the mobile so it's semi-homemade? it's a cute idea!
ReplyDeleteBirds! The last two you made turned out very lovely and charming. (Nearly inspired me to make some, but I was not confident in my sewing then.) Did you ever display them like you thought you would? Because if you didn't, you could always perch them at the top of your mobile.
ReplyDeleteAdorable! And I thought I was the only one who just wanted to sleep all the time. Seriously, it's not funny. How can such little things make you so tired?
ReplyDeleteP, what have you done? Last time you inspired me to make birds for my wedding cake. They were done in the end but many times I wished I hadn't started.
ReplyDeleteA whole effing flock for a mobile? Good job we aren't having babies right now, is all I will say.
The babies will love the mobile whatever the birds look like. In fact, I think they will also love the shadows as much as the mobile itself.
this is going to be awesome. i'm so impressed.
ReplyDeleteAnd if not, a sea-lion mobile would be splendid.
ReplyDeleteI made those birds! They're sat on a shelf and their branches are sat in our utility :( mine have funny beaks but I tell myself it's just more character. One day they'll get assembled, one day my daughter will get a nursery too!
ReplyDeleteThis is darling. Such a sweet, creative mobile.
ReplyDeletei'm with amanda on this one.
ReplyDeleteI made one of these for my boss' baby shower! The key is to stuff the birds very minimally, especially toward the beak. Once you make two the rest will go quickly enough. Balancing the mobile itself took a good hour, though. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteso cute. loves it.
ReplyDeleteMy sister just did this. You can see her finished product here:

yessss. you work magic when you craft.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about naps... When you head down for one it seems it will be short, but then you wake up much later. The sun is gone. What happened??!
ReplyDeleteBut then you slept for 12 hours? That doesn't seem normal. I hope you can get by with less sleep soon!
Sleep feels good... Even though we aren't conscious. I think it's because we're giving our bodies and mind what they need: rest. It's also a great way to pass the time!
they are cute ...
ReplyDeleteI love this mobile. But I agree with others that I think the babies might be happy with bright fabrics, even if they're not in bird shapes... Maybe penguins, rabbits, dogs. We had a felt mobile with Australian animals in our house (my mummy is Australian so not that odd) and they weren't stuffed big but were very cute :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THESE!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy God! I love that mobile!
ReplyDeleteYou are supposed to be sleeping a lot. Nature makes you sleepy in early pregnancy to protect the babies.
Early Pregnancy Symptoms
ReplyDelete"A womans body is working very hard to keep up with the changes that occur in early pregnancy. She experiences increased hormone production in the form of the tiredness, when her heart is pumping harder and faster due to an escalating blood flow, to bring the necessary nutrients to the growing fetus. Increased progesterone production is the primary reason for the extra fatigue most pregnant women experience early in their pregnancy. Progesterone is known to cause sleepiness and is a natural central nervous system depressant."
Yay for sleep, sleep all you can while you can ;0) xx
ReplyDeleteHey funny about that, we also put the TV away after the world cup. It hasn't been out for four years. Lovely birds. Carla
ReplyDeleteEeeeep! You're having babies!!!!!!! Congratulations! I have nothing else to say that doesn't involve a million more exclamation marks. Lovely, lovely news x
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome bird mobile. It would be a great gift for a bird lover.
ReplyDeleteI have it on good authority that sea lion mobiles are great for all kinds of baby milestones.
ReplyDeleteSo it's a little silly, but I gave you an award, if you would like it... :). Check it out in my latest post! http://absandthegreatworld.blogspot.com/2010/07/sugar-doll.html
ReplyDeletesleeping for just a beautiful cause! I hope you're having the loveliest dreams!
ReplyDeleteDude, you ALMOST got me crafting with the wedding birds. If I find myself sewing mobile shizz when I'm pregnant, I'm blaming YOU.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Amanda, Celia and Lisa. Go Sea Lions Go!

Maybe too much. But maybe just enough, depending on what you're going for.
Okay. Now I'm really going to bed.
Good night, dear P.
