I'd like you to meet Eilidh*. When Eilidh's mum emailed me and asked if I might be interested in taking some photos of her daughter just being my initial reaction was a panicked 'I've never done that before I don't know how to do it I can't do it' (if you didn't know, I'm scared of trying new stuff) and then Nye told me I was being silly and actually I'd spent 18 months doing just that with Widdle and Puke and that it would be fun and I should be brave and give it a go. So I did. And I loved it. It turns out that I really like hanging out with littles.
So now I want to do more. I mean, let's not be uncertain: I have absolutely no desire to put babies in baskets, arrange newborns so that it looks like their resting their heads on their hands or get pose families in descending order of age. But just hanging out? Playing? With my camera there? I think I'd like to do more of that, maybe start a(nother) business. More about that later though, for now, here's Eildih:
*(do Americans know how to pronounce Eilidh? It's Hayley without the H. You're welcome.)
I'm still daydreaming out the details of a business, figuring out a plan that might travel with us to London, thinking up a name that works better than Widdle and Puke Photography. But in the meantime if you're interested in having me hang out with you and your littles and letting me capture an hour or two of your lives in my own style (no funny business with baskets) send me an email to peonies@btinternet.com.
Between now and the end of August the deal is thus;
- I will charge £200 to spend two hours with you either in your home or somewhere that you and your littles find fun (I'm more than happy to come to the park with you for instance. Or the zoo, I like the zoo!)
- I'm available to travel in and around Glasgow or to anywhere I can get to easily on the train from central Glasgow (travel expenses not included)
- I will give you the photos as high-resolution files, probably around 50, maybe more, maybe less.
- I get to use the photos to build a portfolio
- No funny business with baskets. (think of it as a playdate, except instead of a kid I bring a camera. Although I've got no shortage of kids, if you want me to bring one of those too.)
How wonderful! All the luck in the world for this new venture.
ReplyDeleteAnd for those with little ones in Glasgow, do this *now* because photos like these are too good to miss out on the opportunity of having.
AMAZING, my heart stopped at quite a few of those. This is going to be big - you are incredible at it :)
ReplyDeleteIf you can stick around long enough for mine to be born your hired. These are wonderful. xx
ReplyDeleteLove them all, but mommy & baby reading the book is my favorite! Great thinking.... might also be friendlier hours... :)
ReplyDeleteFantastic pictures.
ReplyDeletePersonally I think Widdle and Puke Photography is a awesome name for a baby photography business. You could advertise it the Offbeat Mama - it'd be super.
You can tell I like doing new things so I get excited when others do new things.
Or you could call it Lily and Leo for a small people only version of your business.
DeleteI also like naming things.
wow Lilly and Leo thats an excellent idea!!
DeleteAh Lily and Leo!! Such a good idea.
DeleteI follow a blog of a photographer here in Australia who does lots of family shoots, in their homes, no stupid staging etc - it's an excellent idea!
ReplyDeleteOooh which photographer is that?
DeleteAnd love these photos. Perfect idea.
Seriously. So so good. Beautiful. Definitely need to do this more. And hooray for no baskets. Destroy all baskets. xx
ReplyDeleteOh, this is good. Lovely stuff! Thanks for the pronunciation guide for the name. If I wasn't a wee bit away from your working area (or on another entire continent) I'd totally hire you to do this for me.
ReplyDeleteand seconding Widdle and Puke for the name too!
Eidilh is Hayley without the H? that blew my mind.
ReplyDeletealso, these are incredible. you have such a gift. hooray for trying new things!
Wonderful pictures, and what a wee star Eilidh is. Fingers crossed for lots of bookings. You're so good at it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo's. Really and super truly. Very exciting stuff.
ReplyDeleteIf I could afford to fly you over to Melbourne to take photos of our girls like this then I seriously absolutely would in a heart beat. Truly beautiful images.
ReplyDeleteSo lovely. Well done. And yes, thank you on the pronunciation... I would have never gotten that one. Great name though :)
ReplyDeleteWhat about a baby in a watering can? cabbage leaf??? Oh come on! ;)
ReplyDeleteSeriously, these are beyond beautiful! I love that soft little face burying into that gorgeous peony! What a great little feather to add to your cap!
x
you are so out-of-this-world amazing, p.
ReplyDeleteThis is my favorite kind of photography and what I have been trying to achieve myself on occasion. Absolutely brilliant for a new business and I hope we see tons more photos of this caliber!
ReplyDeleteblown away. bloody lovely photos there and i think you are going to be very busy with the little people from here on...in the frame i mean...i know you must be crazy busy already with w&p. eilidh is beautiful! they must be delighted with the moments you captured. grrr why do we live out in the sticks a tonne of miles away?!
ReplyDeleteCara these are just beautiful! You are hired for a baby shoot soon! xx
ReplyDeleteyou are very good you know x
ReplyDeleteyou did an AMAZING job, as usual!!!
ReplyDeletei feel the same about little's - i prefer taking 'hanging out' pictures. those are by far the most precious moments :)
never, never doubt yourself, sheesh!! <3
If and when I ever pop one out and move to Glasgow (or London), I would love to have you do this. As neither of those things are imminent, I just wanted to agree with how beautiful your photos of little E are and your attitude about basket photos. Also cocoons, what's with cocoons??
ReplyDeletePlus, Lily & Leo was a great suggestion for a name!
Beautiful pictures, so natural and not a basket in sight, that's wonderful! I also love the name Lily & Leo for the children's side of your business.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done chicken! You love the littlies and the photographies, I think its a winning plan to combine the two Xxxx
ReplyDeleteLove that name, and love the pictures! Thanks for not sticking a gigantic daisy on her head.
ReplyDeleteA-mazingly good. I wish I lived in Glasgow. How about Lilliput Photos (for little people obv.)?
ReplyDeletewhen you move to london, you have a job.
ReplyDeletewonderful photos, so fresh and warm and real.
take that The Glow....
Stunning. So elegantly poignant. X
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely darling pictures of a darling girl!
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised you doubted yourself. These photos are all stunning. However, the straight-on portrait is shockingly beautiful. Congrats! Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteThese are very beautiful photos. If you ever find yourself hopping on a 24 hour flight to Sydney... with twin toddlers ... I will just keep dreaming.
ReplyDeleteI love these photos and all of your photos of your girls. I think this is a great idea and I wish you all the best!
ReplyDeletelovely shoot. I have a friend that does this pretty well in Toronto.. might be some inspiration? http://www.shannonechlin.com/index2.php?v=v1#/home/
ReplyDeleteI am counting the days till you guys move down to London. And now I have two reasons to book L&L!
ReplyDeleteWoah. These are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAnd in the same way there's a market for non-cheesy wedding photography there is *surely* one for non-saccharine-propped little pics (in fact, I expect they are complementary businesses in the medium term). My query relates to Why All The Vegetables in the Geddesesque world?? (My baby! Cuter than a turnip!)
We have the babe, but not the location for the time being. when you guys head to London I might need to see if Mister G is still cuter than a turnip..
beautiful pics. what a gorgeous girl (and mum!). when i have babies, you can definitely take their picture.
ReplyDeleteI love your new business and that you will be doing photos in your style with no baskets. If I had a little one I would be biting your hand off for this deal, but I don't so I wont. Hope the new venture goes splendidly.
ReplyDeleteOh my God, you are good.
ReplyDeleteSWAPSIES.
ReplyDeleteSO. GOOD.
ReplyDeleteYou could just call it WP Photos. No one *has* to know what it stands for.
(I never know how to pronounce Scottish anything, so I appreciate the transliteration.)
Really beautiful photographs - if I was in Glasgow I'd book you in a heartbeat.
ReplyDeleteWho really likes those baby in basket shots anyway?
Totally the way to go. Love the close-up front-on shot, stunning. May I Pin it?
ReplyDeletePlease call this new business
ReplyDeleteNobody puts baby in the basket
Please.
That close up black and white in the middle. Wow.
ReplyDeleteThese are really beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLILY AND LEO! such a great idea!
ReplyDeleteand of course, these pics are wonderful :)
Awwww (and double awww)! I always love your pics of kids (I adore the ones of my cousins and little ones from our weddings... especially the cake stealing ones!)
ReplyDeleteThe flower sniffing/smiling/sneezing pic is just brilliant! Also love all the colours too... Perfectly done (for a perfect wee one!) :)
Gorgeous. And playful. Love.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the pronunciation guide. This American did not know how to say Eilidh. What an excellent name.
Your husband is entirely correct. :)
ReplyDeleteI found your blog through One Love Photography, who I now follow after they shot my friends' wedding in Vieques this summer. I will now be a frequent reader because I'm furiously and obstinately against babies in baskets and I happen to follow one woman's blog full of photos of babies in pumpkins, babies in baskets, babies in blankets, babies in bluebonnets so that I can remind myself how not to take photos. These are beautiful, candid and full of emotion. LOVE.
