"Susie, is that a poo in your pocket?"
We watched this last night. Are all dog owners a little bit tragic? Or just London dog owners? Or just the ones on Hampstead Heath?
(I'm aware that the answer is more likely 'just the ones picked for the program, but still, it raised some interesting questions in our house about people who have/love dogs. Opinions? Also, did you watch it? Who was your favourite dog owner? Personally I have a soft spot for the woman with the poo in her pocket. And the guy who looked after his father with Alzheimers for 5 years.)

Boo, I missed it! The current favourite programme in my house is Paul O'Grady's For the Love of Dogs. It's a dorky little behind the scenes at Battersea Dogs Home and it's the BEST EVAR. It will make you want to adopt a dog. Fact.
ReplyDeleteAnother fun fact: Fin cries at every episode. Having witnessed his wedding speech, you will probably not be shocked by this.
This is the longest blog comment I've written in like three months. Which would seem to support the conclusion that people who have/love dogs will read/watch programmes/cry/waffle on about dogs at pretty much any given opportunity. So yes, probably a little bit tragic.
Oh you HAVE to watch it, it was hilarious/tragic. The tragedy was clearly ramped up by the editors, but it totally made me think about dog peoples.
DeleteI can't watch the Paul O'Grady one, it makes me cry. I'm clearly not as robust as Fin, I can't handle that sort of trauma.
I missed it too, but with the wonders of iplayer will have to watch, poo in the pocket, oh my that's so funny.
ReplyDeleteWatch it. But not if you're feeling at all depressed.
DeleteI think they picked the most tragic for the cameras.
ReplyDeleteMost dog owners I know are a little bit tragic but also very funny.
It was proper car crash tv, with the people they picked. I don't really think dog owners are all tragic, but I do think that there's something about people who get dogs who want/need a little bit of extra love. (Whereas people who get cats want/need to give extra love, because they sure as shit don't get it back from the damn cat! Following this theory through, the only people who are truly balanced are the ones who have both cats AND dogs.)
DeleteFor the record, I really want a dog.
I think dog owners are about as tragic as parents, probably :)
ReplyDeleteCharming!
DeleteAlthough, parents are the only other sector of society likely to have a poo in their pocket.
DeleteNo, sorry, I meant a lot of
Deletedog owners think of themselves as dog parents therefore the two are probably about equivalent. Although its an interesting idea, how much love is too much, and too tragic?
(oh poo, who ever thought it would result in so much work)
This makes me laugh so much,
ReplyDeleteALL mad.
This weekend I stayed with my Mum and borrowed a coat. Off on a beautiful walk with my boyfriend- cold hands- snugged down in the pocket was an OLD poo.
Luckily it was sort of dried in the bag and so disgusting that it was totally hysterical. Our madly adored terrier has been dead for a few months.
I think it was a test from doggy heaven to see if he would still love someone who might at any moment come up with something such as an old dried poo from the pocket.
He never met the dog.
Just thought I'd share that with you.
And what about bunny owners...
I've only been a dog owner for eight months, and in that time I have become totally tragic.
ReplyDeleteI don't have poo in my pockets, but I did cry hysterically at Frankenweenie. So...
