We've bought and sold a few houses over the last 8 years, this seven step plan has never let me down.
1. Refuse to believe that you have actually bought/sold a house until your partner provides documentary evidence.
2. On sight of such evidence, frown a lot.
3. Tell him you've changed your mind and you don't want to move, you're too tired.
4. Frown a lot more, until it hurts.
5. Go to bed and have a long nap, your frowning muscles need some time to rest.
6. Get up, bake a cake. One with icing and sprinkles. Frown throughout.
7. Develop a fever, go back to bed.
Repeat steps 3 - 7 as necessary while someone more competent orders packing boxes, tape, a removals and looks after your children. (We exchanged contracts, as of December 7th we will own a house in London. Whether I will be able to rouse myself to actually move into it is another matter.)

YOU BOUGHT A HOUSE IN LONDON!!!!!!!! Do the house dance, do the house dance! x
ReplyDeleteI did the house dance!
DeleteCongratulations.
ReplyDeleteSo happy for you all,
and I guess I fall into the category of "That's so exciting, you're moving to London".
Baking cakes always helps.
ALWAYS.
DeleteYEAH!!!!!! Congratulations!!!! That is brilliant news - now get up, eat that cake and dance around the kitchen with your gorgeous family!!! I'M EXCITED FOR YOU!!!! xx
ReplyDeleteUgh, you have too much energy Caroline. But thanks!
DeleteCongratulations!! The act of moving house is evil, but once you're there I know it will be amazing. So excited for you guys.
ReplyDeleteYeah congrats! Come join us in London, it's not so bad! Top tip: no matter what it costs hire packers & movers.
ReplyDeleteJo x
Oh I wish.
DeleteCongratulations! That's fantastic news! As of 7 December my huband and I too will own a house. All the best people complete house purchases on 7 December. Good luck with it all!
ReplyDeleteDonna x
It's clearly an auspicious date.
DeleteCongratulations! Somehow the packing will get done and the moving will happen. It always does.
ReplyDeleteWhen you arrive I will bring you gin, cake and two pairs of hands for helping. x
ReplyDeleteGin! Cake! Hands!
DeleteWe bought our house when I was 7 months pregnant, renovations took twice as long, and we moved when my twins were 4 weeks old into a house that still had 7 construction assholes coming in every morning, kicking up 100 year old dust. I blame my in laws for this, as they were the ones who insisted that we buy a house ASAP.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, HIRE people! It hurts to write the check out but is soooo much better than doing things yourself. And as a treat, hire cleaning people to give the house a once over after you've had all your boxes moved in and the essentials unpacked. It's amaazzziiiinggggg.
Oh jesus. Well done you.
DeleteCan't wait. I will come & bring rum to help with the moving in process.
ReplyDeleteRum is essential. x
DeleteCongratulations! This is awesome. We've never sold anywhere before, only just bought for the first time but that was draining and stressful enough. Curt has vowed we are living in this house for at least ten years now as we had so many arguments during the whole moving process. Can't wait to see some pics of your new place and hear about all your plans for it :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with Curt, never move again, ever.
DeleteHurrah, yay you! You're gonna love being a Londoner.
ReplyDeleteI would love to be able to own my own home, but TBH I don't think I could be assed to move either... and I really, really need more room...
ReplyDeleteNot wanting to move is reason enough not to buy a home.
DeleteThat is really exciting. I can see that Flat Stanley is feeling the excitement too. Wishing you a stress-free and painless move xx
ReplyDeleteAwww! Can totally relate to this...so well put! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteYAY!!!
ReplyDeleteYou bought a house! Congratulations! And lots of well wishes on the move. They really are the worst.
ReplyDeleteCongrats. Long time coming for you all. I hope your move is everything you wish for! :) x
