While I'm not a huge fan of the monarchy I can't help but love the iconography of Lizzie's head, circa a hundred years ago, on British stamps and this garland by d.sharp is the best use of stamps I think I've ever seen. I want them just to hang them on the wall...
I wonder how helpful our local post office would be if I went in and asked for a stamp in every colour please? Considering that most of the staff look at you like you've just asked them if you can crap on their coffee table when you so much as try to post a letter I don't fancy my chances.

so cool!!!!
ReplyDeleteI've seen that all over blogland, and it stops me in my tracks every time. I just love it. I've thought for ages of how I could crowbar that into the wedding, but I think James really would look at me as if i was mad (which I clearly am) if I said I wanted a GARLAND OF STAMPS round the cake. oh well...
ReplyDeletehow adorable - I've never seen this before but I have no clue why. and wow if I could get it in our love stamps...but they're so expensive. I wonder if they make cute one cent stamps.
ReplyDeletewow i actually really love this idea. the colours are awesome!
ReplyDeleteoh my word you are so right about grumpy post office staff. i work for a shop and absolutely dread the inevitable trip there. if you think asking them to post a letter is bad, try asking them for a till receipt and proof of post for every item. it's a nightmare.
ReplyDeleteYou could buy one of the listings like in this etsy shop and make one!

ugh, same crap here. although, recently postal workers have been a little friendlier... it's probably because postage prices are offensively high and as a result, the usps is slowly but surely going out of business...
ReplyDeletefantastic cake!! i love how simple it is.
neat wedding cake....simple, colorful and tasty (I assume)
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty - and clever! And I love the wall in the background covered with envelopes. It's a nice touch.
ReplyDelete(And on a different note: it TOTALLY is the Ikea clock.)
(Hee, hee...!)

OMG!!! That cake looks so yummy. Great post!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI share your love of Queenie Spectrums, and I've even made belts on the same theme!

They have been rather popular, so folks out there must be sharing the love.
Whilst I must confess to have thought this garland idea to be oh-so nice and 'purty', I just HAVE to say I so understand what you are saying when considering the potential reaction at the Post Office if you ever did 'dare' to request THAT many stamps, in THAT many colours! I remember those stone cold stares from when I lived in the UK all too well, but I have to admit it must be some kind of highly contagious malaise affecting those associated with any kind of postal service as I get the same 'get the f*ck outta my face' look whenever I dare solicit anything more than what is customary over here in Portugal!
ReplyDeleteHow I love these too. I may have even gone one stage further with my love! P.S. I sort of love the Queen.
ReplyDeleteOh ... your style makes me sigh & your wit makes me giggle. I think I missed your blog most of all during my self-imposed exile.
ReplyDeleteI have many times tried to put into the words the specific type of disdain visualised in the facial expressions of post office staff and at last you have done it for me. :)
ReplyDeleteThe stamps are fab.
oooh i like this. I too don't have strong feelings of love for the monarchy but this cake is cool!
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic! And finally a use for all those stamps i've been hoarding... determined to take them to a charity shop but never could bear to part with all their multicoloured gorgeousness. Not on cake though. Perhaps a petite christmas garland?
ReplyDeletewhat a great cake idea for a stamp collector!
