That if anyone is going to give up their seat on the train for you that person is going to be male.

    That was my experience too. Maybe it's just because men notice us more, though...?

    And they kindly offer with a smile ~ was one of my favorite experiences in Paris while pregnant.

    Its strange my mum told me the same thing! Anyway that's nice of them , but I wonder why women don't do it that often

    i would probably smile at you, but would be far to shy to actually get up the courage to offer you my seat. My brothers, who have no problem with the shy thing, would fall over themselves to offer a pregnant woman anything they could.

    i kinda like that, it suggests that chivalry is not yet dead!

    I totally get this, I find very few people offer their seats! Men are more polite than women though!

    Huh. Unexpected.

    In my experience if I'm about to fall down because I'm carrying something heavy - only women offer to help. And vice versa, when I see a girl or two struggling with something I'll offer help but have never seen men offer.

    And I offer my seat fairly frequently but I've no experience being pregnant so who knows!

    That's funny - I always offer my seat to pregnant women on the tube and bus. Always. Maybe it's because I'm always looking around at people!! :P

    And once I was at a mainline station and saw a woman about my age struggling with two suitcases. I offered to help but she said no. A man came along not ten seconds later and offered and she said yes. That was weird!

    Really?! I always felt like in Chicago, women were the only ones that noticed they should give up their seats for anyone...elderly, disabled, pregnant, etc. The men were all to preoccupied to look up and notice. As someone who road the train while on crutches, it was 85% of women who stood up so I could sit down.

    I wonder if women just feel like pregnancy is different since most women go through it and that they are less compassionate about it. I would think it'd be the other way, but I can never figure out other people anyway.

    goodness that is so true. there is a section in my local newspaper called "shut outs" where random comments sent in by readers are posted and there has been a discussion about the fact that women don't give up seats for pregnant women on the train and that usually men are way more considerate in this matter.

    strange!
