ongoing

Tomorrow will be 35 weeks. I'm still pregnant. Apparently this is a good thing.

Tell that to my back and my abdominal muscles and our bed which is creaking under my weight. And to me who is tired and in pain and really pissed off at only sleeping in 20 minute bursts because my muscles ache so damn much.

We've been playing this really fun game called Do You Think That Means the Babies Are Coming? It goes like this:

"My tummy's gone really tight, do you think that means the babies are coming?"

"I only slept for 3 hours last night, do you think that means the babies are coming?"

"I've got the runs, do you think that means the babies are coming?"

Repeat ad nauseam throughout the day.

It's kind of a one sided game. N thinks it's silly and that I'll 'probably know' when I'm having the babies. Apparently it's not the sort of thing that one usually misses. Also, he says they can't come yet because the house is NOT READY. Well, I'm glad that's sorted then.

  1. Wow, can't imagine how you are feeling. I am 38 weeks pregnant and thought i was in pain and I only have one baby in my belly! I play the same 'does that mean the baby is coming' game all day long at the moment! If only we knew when it was gonna happen.

  2. when i was pregnant i heard that you knew the baby was coming when you started 'nesting' or getting the slightly psychotic urge to frantically clean and make everything ready. This burst of energy supposedly erupts out of you, as if from no where. I think at about week 41 I started scrubbing the walls in the house just to convince the baby that i was nesting and it was time. (Don't worry I'm sure you won't have to wait that long. I only had one in me).

Best of luck! (you look lovely, and ready to pop).

  3. OK. You are big now:). I had a friend who said that that last few weeks of pregnancy are like waiting for an earthquake. Every time the phone rings, you think that someone is calling to tell you it's time. Except of course they aren't.

Oh, and good luck with the house - I'm sure the babies will love it ;-)!!!

  6. Oh! More photos! You are so gorgeous with those babies in there. That's just the way it is.

I think babies love houses which are NOT READY. Mine did. (It's still NOT READY, of course, and she's thirteen months old. But we have consistent hot running water now, and that never gets old.)

Soon they will come and I think you will notice. My tummy started practising getting really tight about ten days before I went into labour, if I remember correctly. Isn't it amazing how hard it goes? You think it's really firm, then you have Braxton Hicks (or real!) contraction, and it's like a rock.

  7. Whoa, lady! You are a serious baby incubator! I'm sure that the babies will make their pending arrival known, although they might not be gracious enough to wait around until the house is in order. We have a family friend who was born during a remodel - her parents just tucked some blankets in an dresser drawer and she slept in there for the first few months. No biggie.

you are so tiny for two - and that is a compliment!

  18. 35 weeks already?! How come when others are pregnant it goes so fast, when it's you it's about a decade. I remember that game and the wait. Was bad enough with one very squirmy baby in there. Although I miss it now. And I swore I never would. I'm so excited for you, can't wait to meet them.

  19. Oh! Babies in your tummy! Never gets old.

Fingers crossed they remain incubating til the house is done, but really it's not too bad if it isn't finished. Hey, one of William's friends lives in a work-in-progress house. It's been a work in progress for 8 or 9 years now, and the kid is nearly 3. And he's fine. Good at negotiating rubble.

  20. Ahh! You look so good! Great job on the baby-growing... As others have said, you are clearly doing it well and they are quite content on the inside. I had been wondering if they came sometime during these book posts. But no. Maybe tomorrow? I'll check back.

    Peony, you look so yummy.

  23. I think the worst game I played was, who could that be phoning to check if I have gone to the hospital and forgotten to tell them. I counted how many times someone would say'Oh you are still there then?' Well. Let me think about it, you phoned me, I answered, where do you think I am. My waters broke with no.2 in a most public place on his due date, god love him

  24. I've known women pregnant with ONE who were much bigger than you!

You look wonderful and I love the stripes:)

Best of luck with the house renovations though I second the comment about babies being happy to sleep just about anywhere; my youngest sister slept in blankets in a drawer when she arrived before her cot did!

  25. My wife and I are planning on getting pregnant next year. Wow, I can only imagine the pain you are in but you will love it when you have that baby in your arms :) Best Wishes!

  26. Looking good, hope they're with you soon (but understand their reluctance to emerge from their nice warm home, it is getting so chilly out at the moment!)

  27. You are stunning!! Can't wait to see baby pics!

  28. I love these photos, you look amazing and your belly, such a nice shape (must be because you are having girls)

Hope that the little ones arrive soon enough but not too soon and that all goes well for you. Getting very excited too about it all! All best wishes your way.

  29. You look wonderful! No you do! I can only deeply empathize with the not sleeping and weird excess weight and such, but it will all soon come to an end. I'm really happy they decided to stay in until now, these wise little baby girls. When they come out they'll be really big and ready (not a twin expert but someone told me anything past 35 weeks is a big victorious feat for multiple births).

    Take care, you beautiful mama.

  30. Good heavens, but you make an adorable pregnant lady! (Of course it's almost over, but I'm sure you'll be even more adorable as a mommy.)

I haven't read any blogs in several weeks, EXCEPT that I keep checking yours obsessively for the big news. I'm sure it will happen any day. And am sending many good thoughts your way in the meantime. Warmest of wishes to you.

P.S. I had contractions for 3 months so worried constantly about whether I would know when they switched over to the "real thing." Don't worry, when it happens, you'll know!

  31. You look adorable, so excited for you and the blessings to come!! Have a great weekend!

  32. I'm not sure how you make being pregnant with twins look good, but somehow you do. I'd say take a bow, but that looks like it'd be hard.

  33. You look fab even if you are in physical pain! One of my best friends is due in 1 1/2 weeks and currently she's just saying over and over that her baby will be late as she has so much to do before the wee one turns up... so she's playing the game of see if the baby pays attention to her mum! ;)

  34. You are the cutest pregnant lady I've ever seen.

  35. So sweet how you look as if you’re having a little word with the babes in that first picture!

My friend is also 35 weeks pregnant with twins (such a weird coincidence – but I think I’ve said that before!)
The other day on the phone I asked her how big she was –
she told me she looks like she's got a space hopper stuck up her dress.
Can’t be much fun but the thought of it still makes me giggle.
