May.
May was a big month. I planted seeds, the first in many years. With blackened fingernails, cold damp hands hands and a chopstick. Coriander, basil, thyme, chives, rosemary, mint. Herbs which without, life has little meaning.
Then things grew and flowered and whispered to me that winter was over.
I went to London, alone. I left Nye and the girls to their own devices and spent a night and two days visiting friends and exploring what will one day be our new neighbourhood. It was sweet, delicious freedom. I crossed roads without the green man, I read books on the train, I held babies that weren't mine. I was reminded that our time of babyhood has well and truly passed, a new crop has arrived to take their rightful place as new lives in this world.
I came home, to my best people. Some of them welcomed me back, some of them did not.
The girls grew bigger and bigger and learned to spell in the bath. Ella said 'oh fuh.'
We took an ill-fated camping trip and I learned big lessons about parenthood.
Ella made a shiny offering to her nemesis. Ammie's curls grew wilder.
Your pictures are so good. Your babies are so cute. They are still kind of babies right? Though goodness they have gotten tall.
ReplyDeletenope, definitely not babies. Although sometimes I call them my babies, but I suspect I'll be doing that when they're 25.
DeleteHee hee. Baw bag. Hee hee.
ReplyDeleteit makes me giggle every time too. Not that I'm childish or nothing.
DeleteW + P. They look like little girls now and not bebes.
ReplyDeleteI know, right? Imagine when they have proper HAIR!
DeleteI love how they read, fix things, discover the world and are already very much their own person.
ReplyDeleteReading in the trains and meeting friends is the best.
Your pictures are always beautiful.
Oh Cara. It happened. They got big. And I have been struggling to figure out which one had curls, having learned to distinguish them from the front, I am so happy to now know the backs of their heads.
ReplyDeleteYou take extraordinary photos.
MeMoo, it's MeMoo that has All The Curls. Pickle has a few too though.
DeleteThey are so big! I'm sure you hear that nonstop and need no reminder, but still! So big!
ReplyDeletewould you just look at those fireys.
ReplyDeleteThese photos made my heart sing!! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou make me want twins!!
ReplyDeleteThat's because twins are the best. have some. Straight away.
DeleteSo I already can't wait to be a mom, but your photos and blogs make the anticipation exquisite.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore the picture with just Nye's arm trying to reach [Ella or Ammie]'s hair with a brush!! It looks like an intruder on the photograph...
ReplyDeleteI love that one too, it's so Ammie, not sitting still long enough for ANYTHING.
Delete(it's Ammie!)
Deletewow such lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteso much joy amazing...
Awesome photos but the one that stood out to me was the seed pots. Outstanding photo. Thanks for inspiring me to grab my camera and head out at lunch today.
ReplyDeleteRob.. (Parent Brain)
you're welcome.
DeleteBeautiful. Reading magazines - a beautiful photo
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. Your girls and their laundry and their books just kill me, so sweet. I love how their personalities shine through.
ReplyDeleteOh, they are just two sweet angels!

Sweet little bunch! Great shots. Love the soft touch and those little angels as subjects, adorable. Got my eye on your blog now.
ReplyDeleteI love the gentleness of life and joy that comes through in these photographs and in your words, so spare and lovely. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGlorious seedlings! And your house has such lovely light - is that something you look for in househunting?
ReplyDelete(we nearly moved into a basement flat last summer until I started having night sweats at the thought of being in the dark ALL DAY. Lucky we got our holding deposit back - so much happier with window-filled top-floor.)
oh absolutely, Nye especially. We can't live in the dark, we get depressed and sad and cold. It's one thing that terrifies me about moving to a London terrace with little, street-level windows. However south it faces, it's never going to be as light as this place. But there will be Caribbean food, so there's that.
DeleteIt is all simply wonderful.
ReplyDeletebeautiful: reminds me of when my twins were little
ReplyDeleteI am impressed by your plant on the step with two toddlers. How do you keep them from destroying it?, we can't have anything on the floor or within reach of my son. He destroys it all!
ReplyDelete:) They tried but they got thoroughly told off, then they tried again and got told off again and now they just leave it alone. If you'll notice though, in that photo they're emptying all of the DVDs out on to the floor, which they've been told not to do plenty of times too, so it doesn't always work!
DeleteThere is just so much *growing* happening in your home. <3 Beautiful, all of it.
ReplyDelete(Please tell me Nye plays football with them.)
Baw bag. Hehe.
he does! And so do I! They're amazing at it, Ammie can dribble better than most adults. Ella's kind of into picking the ball up and running off giggling though.
DeleteYour solo trip to London sounds wonderful. As great as adventures en famille are, it is so good just to be on your own agenda once in a while. You've got me thinking I want to do the same when I'm back in the UK in a couple of months. I hear Liberty and Anthropologie calling my name and it's never quite the same (i.e in and out in three minutes) with a tiny one or two in tow x
ReplyDeleteyes! The shopping is the best bit. Whenever I'm out without the girls I go into some shops, just because I can, whether I need anything or not!
Deletebaw bag!!!!!!!!!! love it xx
ReplyDeletebeautiful photos!
