Confession....

I don't like watermelon.

It tastes of nothing
and makes a mess
and it's full of pips that look like big black bugs.

But I like this picture. It makes me want to get together with my favourite girlies, in the sun and dip our toes in the water. Of course we'd have to replace those melon bits with something yummier, a Spanish orange maybe? Or bowls of fresh berries. Ooh! Margaritas! Who's with me?

  1. I agree! I don't see the point of watermelon, unless it's watermelon flavoured body shop lip balm that is...

  2. I hate watermelon. In fact, all kinds of melons. And I don't like mangos or cherries or kiwi fruit. I know. Some people think this means I must hate life. But i don't! Just weird fruit textures. Weirdly, I get super jealous in summer time when everyone is biting into their juicy watermelons and mangos and have the juice dripping down their chins and it's all very festive and summer. Sometimes I just eat some anyway. But I don't like the taste.

  4. What do all girl bloggers have in common? A dislike of watermelon!

I'm another one who doesn't like it (or any other kind of melon now I think about it).

I will take a margarita and a chance to dip my toes in that pool though. Yes please.

  5. Couldn't resist the title of your blog. In the defence of the humble watermelon - have you tried watermelon salad ? ( I think Nigella did a version of this) - basically chunks of watermelon , feta, olives, basil and a bit of lime juice (might be missing something out ) - it tastes very unexpected. Love the photo btw.

  6. I don't like watermelon either. Or cucumber. They both taste like water gone wrong to me.

  7. A great picture!
Makes me want some now, but only if I were by a pool like these ladies!

Nevertheless, margarita dance! Tra la la la la la la.

  9. Any other type of melon works for me, watermelon is definitely overrated.

  10. Um, thank you. Thank you for affirming everything that is wrong with watermelon. My husband loves it and has been trying to convince me of its merits for years. I thinks it tastes like watery styrofoam. But the photo is lovely.

  11. Oh my goodness! Perhaps it is a regional thing but watermelons grow so sweet in Texas, and they even have seedless ones! For some people to take out the fun of spitting the seeds is blasphemy, but in my opinion the seedless are divine. Its quite important to get a fresh, local watermelon full of flavor and a thin rind.

  14. Wait, have you ever had GOOD watermelon. Garden raised, warm from the sun, bright red and juicy watermelon? It's a totally different thing from the sad little anemic things they sell you at the grocery store. Don't give up on it yet!

  15. I don't like watermelon, I love it! Oh what a lame joke!

Still love the watermelon. It reminds me of my teenage escapades on holidays with my girlfriends in crete. Ah good times.

I also love cucumber! I like normal taste-full food too - but I also think watermelon and cucumber tastes delicious! So refreshing.

  16. I also hate watermelon! EVERYONE, it seems, loves the stuff, so I am thrilled to find that I am not alone!

I agree with Julia, who says watermelon is pointless.
    Absolutely.

  17. Oo I feel like a social outcast.. I am lovin the 'watermelon man'
And that tune by Quincy Jones- how could you not love it because of that summery hipswayie groove!!

It's scrummy, all bright pink and juicy and don't people pour vodka in to make it alcoholic? Or is that just my mad friends?!

  21. GOOD watermelon tastes of much more than nothing! But the seeds are certainly annoying!

  22. If I'm going to eat a watermelon, it has to be in the perfect state of ripeness. If it's even a day past perfect, I don't want it. That's when the texture gets all mealy and not good.

But I'll take a margarita over a watermelon any day.

  23. Oooh! If I lived where you live I would totally be with you!

And I agree. Watermelon is Yuck. A skinny-as-hell co-worker of mine recently told me she does "watermelon fasts" a few times a year to keep her figure. I snorted and told her I'd join... as long as watermelon cosmos and watermelon candy were on the list. Pffft!
