A Second birthday

We forgot until we were half way through making breakfast, when we turned to each other: 'they're two! You're two!'

Celebratory toast and jam and then frantic packing and cleaning to get to the ferry on time after a long holiday on a windy isle.

Ferry fish and chips for lunch, plans to stop in Skye for some birthday cake derailed by two two year olds, fast asleep in the back of the car.

A long drive home, through mountains and moors and forests. Pizza for dinner, a low-nutrient day.

A bath and bed and asleep before the lights are out. Us and them.

Two. Two two year olds. Two.

Gorgeous pictures. The Uist wind obviously played havoc with Ammie's hair! Ella's hair looks lovely in bunches. They both look so grown-up!

  4. Ahh just lovely. We have been away for a lot of out two kiddos birthdays. There birthdays are consecutive days three years apart. Being away on an adventure, on holiday for their birthdays are some of their best memories so far. Loved this post, jx

    1. It was fun having a birthday adventure, although I missed the ritual of waking up and having presents. Perhaps being away but not travelling is the answer.

  6. A thought.... They will read this one day. They will soak up every image and process it through the filtered lens of their lives, loves and longings... they'll know how you felt when they were two and (maybe) they'll remember a bit about it themselves. What a gift. Bigger than the sum of all it's parts because it's about them through the lens that's you. XX

    1. Ask Nye. I married a clever photographer man. Not clever enough to make me look not completely exhausted, but clever nonetheless.
