A cream cake...

I hated the long version of this dress when it appeared in that movie, it was awful, unflattering, over the top and badly badly fitting. But this version on Net a Porter proves what I have always thought about puffy wedding dresses - most of them can be entirely redeemed by having 20 inches hacked off the bottom.

(Oh god, I've just seen the back. Why Vivienne? Why would you do that to a perfectly lovely dress?)

  2. Looks a little like it got stuck up after a visit to the W.C. If you don't mind the coarse reference...

  3. oh yuck! why would they do that?!?!?!

  4. is anything with a bubble hem really redeamable? It's just too trendy, like poofy sleeves and but bows.

  5. Wait. What's going on? The movie reference completely went over my head. Unless you're talking about SATC, then I think I get it.

Wait. Did I just say S.A.T.C.? *shudder*

  6. oh my crap, the back of that is a freakin trainwreck!

  7. Hmm... better than the original, although I think it would have been nigh on impossible to create something worse than that monstrosity. And I agree with you - puffy works a lot better shorter, and sans train.

But anyway, who would wear this?! Would you not feel like the least imaginative, most ridiculous bride ever? If this had been available before my wedding, I can totally imagine a nightmare where everything seems ready, then I realise I'm wearing it. Oh the embarrassment!

  9. Quite nice from the front I thought. But does indeed look like everything went wrong after a visit to the loo...

  10. okay, i thought that about the dress too, but everyone else seemed to think it was just amazing. it just wasn't what i had pictured carrie bradshaw picking out. and now, i still don't particularly care for it...

  11. two things
    1. the neckline is like bunny ears no?
    2. Getting my dress stuck in my tights is my worst nightmare, at least now if it happens I can say it's the latest style.

  12. Oh no why have they done that to the back?? Otherwise it would be perfect!

  13. Oh and if they could chip about £4400 off the price too ;)

  14. That's funny...the back is reminds me of MY prom dress circa 1988. A Carolina Herrera pattern made by my aunt, also, in creamy satin.

  15. @ RE: the back... Yeah, right, that's exactly what every bride wants. Exclusively drawing the attention to her bum.

And in the movie, was I the only one feeling just a twinge of rejoice and victory when she ended up marrying in her little vintage suit?

  16. the back is not what you would expect...but then again it's vivienne westwood we're talking about!
    pretty from the front though!

  17. couldn't agree more. That thing WAS horrible in the movie (the boob-le region was especially ghastly) but since it was Vivienne Westwood/Patricia Field/SATC no one else would dare agree with me.

    I feel relieved.
