Something kind of fantastic

'We're different, we all are. Him especially. But there's something kind of fantastic about that, isn't there?' *

When I found myself sitting on The Boy, sobbing into his neck because we didn't have the right flour to make pastry and thus life was just impossible, it was pretty clear that I needed to get out. It was also clear, judging from the level of the screaming hab jab that was going on, that it would take something really really good to make this horrible situation better.

'How about we go out for dinner? Mono should be quiet on a Monday, we can sit in a booth and eat veggie burgers.'

'no' I muttered, shaking my head which was still hiding in his jumper

'Cake. We could go for cake'

I didn't even bother saying no this time, just shook my head again and sniffed loudly.

'Um...' he said, starting to sound a little desperate. 'What about Fantastic Mr Fox'

My ears pricked.

I am in big love with Fantastic Mr Fox. This film is the love child of Ocean's Eleven and Wallace and Gromit adopted and raised by The Royal Tenenbaums. Fantastic, in other words. We went to see it on Monday when I was in the midst of the aforementioned rather major meltdown and I'm quite certain that there is nothing else in this world that could have calmed and cured me like those weird little animated mammals.

Sorry I've been gone. I'm struggling with, um, sanity issues. Which strangely my puter seems to exasperate something rotten. So I've been hiding from it. Avoidance (and animation) is the best medicine.

*words of the truly fantastic Mrs Fox.

  4. Sanity is under-rated. One ray of hope is that for those gifted with too many neurons, age often helps. You look around one day and find out that the dulling of the senses and the slowing of the synapses was a good thing for sanity. If not so great for driving skills.

  9. I love Wallace & Gromit. And if this movie is, as you put it, "the love child of Ocean's Eleven and Wallace and Gromit adopted and raised by The Royal Tenenbaums", then I really HAVE to see it.

    I hope you're doing better. =)

  10. Fantastic Mr Fox was one of my favourite books ever. (Right up there with Where the Wild Things are.) I've been nervous about seeing them both, afraid the movies will somehow spoil my memories of the books, but since sanity has been sparse over here as well, I think I shall venture forth.

    Take care my dear.

And LPC's comment made me giggle...

  11. oh, baking issues & sanity are two rather bad combinations. sorry to hear you are suffering from the mean sads. your movie-description was rocktastic. some of the interview's with dahl's wife are worth looking up if you get a chance. they might be a bit of cheer.

  12. What a nice hubband you have :D

I love Roald Dahl so if the film does him justice it must be great. I recommend his short stories for adults, they're pretty dark though so maybe when you're feeling better.

Your sanity is obviously far more important than your blog, I have far too many of the damn things to read anyway :P I suggest escaping the big smoke for a day or two also, but that's only cos I'm an interfering bint. Oh, and I once burst into floods of tears because my morning egg wasn't cooked right. I was beyond tired at the time...

  13. Oh, I cannot wait for this movie! Jarvis Cocker is doing the voice of one of the characters, and I adore Jarvis Cocker :)

I hope you chug through all the sorespots that are occurring. I feel a tug from that same direction myself, and need to spend time by some water. Lakes, oceans; they help me get through everything. Good luck, we'll be here if you need anything from us :)

  15. Hope you feel better soon. I regularly have sanity issues and as bad as they seem at the time, they do always appear to blow over without leaving too much permanent damage. Fantastic Mr Fox sounds like a great remedy in any case. May very well have to persuade the husband to babysit so I can go and see it myself. faye x

  16. Oh honey, last week I had a meltdown when the mister used the lemon I had been saving to make some lemon meringue cupcakes. So I, scarily, feel you on this. I am happy that foxes can serve as painkillers.
