There's more...

Thank you all so much for your lovely comments and congratulations, they mean the world to both me and N.

So, when I said that I wrote the previous some weeks ago I wasn't kidding. I wrote it 13 weeks ago, when we thought we were having a baby. A baby as opposed to two babies.
Twins. Two. More than one. A litter.

Readers, meet Widdle and Puke....

That there on the bottom is Widdle and at the top (with the doughnut) is Puke. Say hello babies.

Of course they're quite significantly bigger now. Which is to say that they don't look like sleeping hamsters any more. They have fingers (ten each. Score!) and toes (we couldn't count those, they were moving to fast. Any number will do as long as the Peonies Family webbed feet don't make an appearance. You think I'm joking don't you?) and arms and legs and tiny flickering baby hearts.

Widdle likes to suck fingers and Puke likes to kick Widdle in the head.

Twins readers! Twins!*

*Appropriate responses to the news that someone is having twins include but are not limited to:

"rather you than me" , "Oh my God, twins. (no exclamation mark)" , "double trouble" and "a woman in my office had twins, and well.... (raised eyebrows and small shake of the head)" are all shitbag things to say and will earn you a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

(We've heard all of the above so far. People are assholes.)

  1. I've never commented on your blog before and what a post to start with!

First, congrats on the pregnancy and second, TWINS! That's freaking awesome! Sure, all babies are special, we know that, but two of them at the same time? It just seems so much more special (I'm fighting the urge to say it's 'double' the amount of special... obviously not fighting all that hard).

    Congratulations :)

  6. Wow! That is so amazing! A friend of mine has twins and the little girl was always kicking her brother in the head in the womb. The little boy always had his hand up by his head in all the ultrasounds bc of her kicking him! Now he sleeps with his hands up by his head :-) Congratulations!!!

  40. Twins are fab! We have 2 sets of twins in my family – one set were really quiet when they were little (unheard of for my family) and the other set are little imps!

Ignore the a-hole people... there's always some who wants to rain on someone else's parade!

So a huge huge congrats. Can't wait to see pics when Widdle and Puke arrive!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. fucktitsbollocks! I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING!

    awww maaan! mega turbo congratulations!

Now my ovaries are even more jealous of yours! I really love the idea of having twins, I would love to have them!

  42. TWINS!
    this is phenomenal news!!
    congratulations dear.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Woah! How amazingly fantastic! Congrats to you both. Or you four, I should perhaps say.

Twins has definitely got to be a good thing - no chance of fighting over who gets to hold the baby, you get to have one each.*

*I'm not suggesting that you each choose one and then favour that one through life. I mean that when one of you holds one of your babies, the other can hold the other one, and then no one feels like they're missing out on baby cuddles. Hurrah.

    ReplyDelete
  44. How about, 'Twins!! Well, bugger me with a bunch of bananas!', which has to go down in history as one of my all time favourite Peonies phrases.

Love all of you. Each and every littlest one.

    ReplyDelete
  45. OHMYGOODNESS! That is amazing & wonderful & fabulous! Congratulation! How exciting! Needs multiple exclamation marks!!11! :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. some of my favourite people are twins. :)

  47. i'm a twin and i couldn't imagine life without my built in best friend! our parents always treated us as individuals. they encouraged us to develop our own identities and focus on our individual strengths. i think that helped us stay away from the crazy competition that some twins fall into. congratulations!

    ReplyDelete
  48. My heart just nearly popped.

  52. Girl, you sure know how to tell a story.

TWINS! That is frigging fabulous news. When I saw your Widdle and Puke tag the twins thing crossed my mind for a minute and then was like "nah, just some Scottish thing".

Just two little Scottish things! How glorious! How thrilling! Can't wait for the stories. Xo

    ReplyDelete
  55. Congratulations! Absolutely wonderful news.

You will have an instant family and the twins can be best friends. Awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Well ... first, congrats. Second ... congrats again!

My grandma had twins, but she didn't know she was having twins. (This was obviously before I was born.)

Out came my Aunt Diane, and she thought they were done. Then out came my Uncle Doug. They were both born healthy, and they were the best of friends growing up. They're still close.

Sure, twins fight. (All siblings fight.) But they have a special bond, and you're going to be a part of that wonderful bond.

And to any negative nellies - to hell with them!

  57. I'm a twin, and it was super dooper growing up with someone my age. They are some lucky bubs you have there- plus my Mum loved that when we woke up at an ungodly hour in our adjoining cribs, my sister and I would gurgle, chat and entertain each other for hours, allowing her to sleep in/hang the washing up/take a breath.
    congratulations!

We were both caught in disbelief at first then, a split second after, we found ourselves saying "quadruplets!" with weird crazy googley eyes. Kids are blessings. The heavens must really know you have good genes. =) More little pixies and little n's running around!

  75. You and the boy are such a strong two-some that it just seems to make sense for you to have twins. Congratulations!
Can I ask stupid questions like do you know if they are identical or not? Do twins run in your family? - does that even increase the possibility of you having twins too?
There is nothing wrong with webbed toes all the special people have webbed toes - like me!
