New York, the wedding.

Thank you all again for your sweetness, no sharp sticks for you girlies, just smooches. I'll be back next week with a little more W&P, but for now let me present......
Persephone & Fauxhawk, The Nuptials. I know a lot of you have been waiting for this for a long long time. I know because you keep asking me. So here you have it, some snippets of Persephone & The Hawk's wedding, the reason we were in New York in the first place.

These are just a few of my favourites but you can see the whole shebang on Lillian and Leonard:
{ part 1, the preparations}

* As I was putting together this post I heard Skid Row on the radio for the very first time ever! If you don't understand the significance of this it means you haven't been reading What Possessed Me closely enough. Which means you should have your internet connection revoked.

fruffles and flappers

Lest you think I don't appreciate pretty dresses, fruffly shrugs, vintagey headpieces and improbably beautiful friends....

Goats and guests

So I know everyone is all about the dress and the shrug and the headpiece and the inconceivably beautiful friends. But there was a baby goat at this wedding, A BABY GOAT PEOPLE. Just look at the cuteness...

If I'd been a guest at this wedding there's no way in hell I'd have been dragged away from such adorableness for anything as pedestrian as a wedding.

bride in boots.....

I like a bride in boots. I especially like a bride in boots when they're not cowboy boots. Not that I have anything against cowboy boots, I giggled with delight the first time I saw a bride in cowboy boots too, and possibly the second third and fourteenth time, but it's nice to see something a little different once in a while.

Ruffles and love...

Why have I not seen Jen and Hooper's wedding before? With its frills and tattoos and New York and spirit of warmth and peace and loveliness. Why? Then again perhaps it has been everywhere and I've been asleep. That has been known to happen.

Buttery silk and peach ribbons....

I am completely in love with this John Galliano dress as worn by the bride of the wedding du jour. It might just be the prettiest dress I've ever seen.

With rings on her fingers...

Punam Bean's photographs of this couple's Jewish Yemenite Henna Ceremony are like something straight out of National Geographic, photos of a time long gone and outfits consigned to attics, museums and those who make their living from posing for tourist photos.

But they're not gone, not buried.

There are people who still own such a thing, wear such a thing.

And I'm jealous.

Cows and linen...

Being a curmegeonly type the sight of invitations etc printed on anything other than paper tends to make me roll my eyes. Once you start announcing social events on personalised wine bottles/cutlery/seashells I feel you may as well hire a male stripper with the time and date tattooed on his chest for any suggestion of dignity in the act of inviting is long gone and your friends and family may as well have fun with the invitation, if they can't pin it to their notice board.

However I make an exception for linen. I love linen, I especially love farmhouse style linen. With cows on. Or any livestock really.

An English wedding....

Ingredients for a perfectly English wedding.....

A country house. Modest but beautiful and with an Austen worthy history. Perhaps used in the 1700s to control a pair of daughters who had been disgracing the family name with their antics in London society?

Unexpected weather. Sunshine in February, gales in July. It doesn't matter.

Wellies, of course. Hunters if one wants to do it properly. (And what could be more English than doing it properly?)

Gardens. It simply wouldn't work without beautiful gardens.

A sense that all was done with the greatest of ease. A sense that everything is done with the greatest of ease

Headwear. Spectacular headwear.

A groom who blushes when complimented and a bride who gives the most gracious and eloquent of speeches.

Guests that dance with joyous abandon but never, ever fall over.

Cheese. The stinkier the better. Real champagne.

Jazz.

Croquet on the lawn, top hats, floral tea cups, morning suits and pastel outfits with matching hats are not necessary for an air of effortless Englishness.

Lovely dress, lovely lady, lovely morning....

Doesn't she look like a Greek goddess? Or perhaps a very stylish Oscar winner?

Kristina (of Lovely Morning) has picked what looks like the most simply stunning dress and I can't wait to see it from the front. Guessing from her stunning invitations and generally exquisite taste I am imagining it will be a very stylish affair.

At the altar...

Today I was so excited to see this post on Lauren and Desaray's blog. I adored their engagement photos when I saw them on Punam Bean's blog and emailing Punam to ask if I could share them has been on my to do list for an embarrassingly long time (actually everything on my to do list is getting embarrassing. I'll let you guess for yourself if the laundry got done or not...)

So I decided just to point you in their direction and let you look for yourself.

While the sunshine portraits are stunning it is the pictures of Lauren and Desaray in the tattoo parlour that I really love. There is an intimacy and power in them that I can't find words to describe, but they are infinitely moving and utterly beautiful. If a little gory in places....

Go, look, love....

Autumn tables....

I'm trying not to hate the fact that summer is over without it ever having started. This table helps....
