apparently it's some sort of holiday.

Apparently it's easter. I had no idea. I mean, I knew it was in April sometime that that this is April (thank God) but I couldn't have put a date on it, it's one of the joys of being self-employed; there are no public holidays. Have a nice Easter, if that's something you do. See you next week.

pinning

Do you pin? I pin. I pin like Madeleine Albright (to quote the inimitable Kidchamp.) I've even added a little Pinterest linky button whatsit over on the right there. (look! It's a pinboard! It's clever AND pretty.)

I know I'm a bit late to this party but I'm still hearing an awful lot of 'I don't really get pinterest' which sounds an awful lot like 'I don't really get my VCR.' In other words Dudes! IT'S NOT COMPLICATED. Pinterest is a place for keeping track of things you like and things you find weird and things you think other people might like. Or it's an enormous black hole of things other people like, which is mostly grotesquely sickening recipes (white chocolate salted caramel cupcake, cookie dough truffles anyone?) and diet 'inspiration' (read: Starvation Motivation).

It's both a place for you to keep virtual pinboards of things you like and a place for you to browse things that other people like. Which is both wonderful and awful. Wonderful because there are people out there with very good taste (and some with TOTALLY insane taste, which is amusing), awful because there are a lot of people out there with very good taste and one can lose hours, days weeks lost in that shit.

I try to avoid too much browsing of other people's pins and keep it as a place to save pictures and gubbins that I like. Which becomes interesting when one looks back on one's pins after a few weeks and discovers what it is that one likes.

It seems that I mostly like:

tattoos

stripes

things with boats on

peculiarities

sexy men with babies.

 reassurances

and rabbits

Surprise!

There are rules though. When you pin something it links to the page that you found it on. If that page is the front page of someone's blog then that link is not going to stay very useful when that someone updates their blog. SO. Either take 3 seconds to open the actual blog post that the thing is in or even better, if it's not that blog's original content then click through to whoever made it and pin it from there. Then when other people click on your pins they are taken to a link that is actually useful and credit is given where credit is due. Okay? Okay.

engage brain, then speak

Yeah, I could do with listening to my own advice.

I would like to take a moment to acknowledge that I say stupid things ALL THE TIME. Mortifying things. Things that instantly make me wish I was dead because then the horror would stop. Things that I, who will willingly embarrass myself here will not be telling because you will jugde me (yesyouwill).

In my defense: I DIDN'T MEAN IT.

BUT. I have never told someone else that their (perfectly well-behaved) children are trouble. So at least I have that to be proud of.

bunnieeeez

I was browsing t'web for picture framing inspiration when I came across this bunny wall on Design Sponge, A BUNNY WALL PEOPLE! BUNNIEEEEEZ! ALL OVER THE WALL! BUNNIEEEEEEEEZ!

These bunnies are by Susie Pilgrim Waters (the wall is hers too. And the house) who it appears has a bit of a thing about BUNNIEEEEEEEZ too.

Wise lady.

Flying solo

aviator bunnies

Nye: "It's only one day. 8 hours in fact. It'll be fine. We've managed to keep them alive for 4 months."

Me: "yes, and what if Soph undoes all that hard work in one day?" pause. "Alternatively, we've managed to keep Soph alive for 5 years, what if they undo all that hard work*??"

We have our first wedding in six months today. I'm excited. And terrified. I'm actually more worried about Sophie than the babies, they'll be fine. It turns out that babies aren't actually that breakable. Adults though? Adults can be driven to the brink relatively easily, and these two know it.

Luckilly Sophie is about as chilled as it gets, if anyone can survive unscathed it's her.

And yet. I still can't get the image of us getting home this evening to find Widdle and Puke strapped into their car seats with a post it stuck to Widdle saying 'Sorry, couldn't cope, gone home.' out of my head.

brat and suzie

When my mum was here last week we took the babies on their first shopping trip, it wasn't as painful as I might have expected. Mostly because Nye spent the day standing in doorways with the pushchair while my mum and I squawked over baby clothes and toys and hats and shoes and and and... Needless to say we enjoyed ourselves more than Nye did. And the babies? They slept all day.

Despite all the cuteness and all of the covetables there was very little that I came away well, coveting. These t-shirts (for grown ups, not babies. Ooh, they should make baby ones. Definitely) by Brat and Suzie that I stumbled across in La La Land have been calling to me since I saw them though, especially the motorcycling squirrel. And hello bunny and stripes, I love you.

Dining Nook vs. Rabbit

The rabbit is well on his way to meeting his destiny as a pair of ear muffs.

The bastard.

doubts over breakfast

P: "I read that we should practise 'being the babies' and asking ourselves all sorts of questions about our lives in utero. I tried it but it freaked me out."

N: looks up from his breakfast and raises one eyebrow

P: "One of the questions was 'are all of my movements greeted with joy?' ....
Sometimes I swear at them when they kick me. I'm failing already."

N: with mouth full of breakfast "no you're not."

P: "but what if I don't love them enough?"

N: not even bothering to look up from the toast he's buttering "Rubbish. Look how much you love the rabbit and he doesn't even like you."

P: ".....true."

Dog, if you could speak

I got out of bed
and came here for adventure.
I stepped on a stone on the way.
I took off my shoe
and a dog came towards me
wagging his tail happily.

Dog, if you could speak,
you'd know what to do.
Simply turn around and run.
Dog, if you could speak,
you bury your bone
and show me the way back home.

Got out of bed,
and I put on my sunsuit.
Blue checkered shorts and a dress.
Nothing was left for a girl in pyjamas.
No breakfast, no kindness, no game.

If You Could Speak
God Help the Girl

Spooked

To conclude Materialistic Monday, my best lady Celia emailed me:

'when i think of your house, i imagine it looks a lot like this.'

I wish.

One day, when we're done worrying if we're going to starve this winter, I'm going to buy this print and I'm going to stare at it all day.

Bunny bean

I'm not entirely sure what this* is, but I like it.

zzzz

I feel like this bunny.

There are Big Things happening in our house this week. Big Scary Things and I need a little nap.

I've recently been looking back over the last two years of posts on Peonies and Polaroids and I've scheduled some of my favourites to appear while I'm off, napping. Most of them are from way back, when I had two readers so hopefully they'll be all brand new to a lot of you.

Smooches to you my chickens. Have a loverly week.

sweet mother of baby rabbits...

Sharon Montrose is killing me with teeny weeny ickle baby bubby wabbits...

She currently has a promotion on, a buy three get one free sort of a thing. Which is perfect as THERE ARE THREE MORE BUNNEEEEEEEEZ.....

I love this one best though. He looks so worried. In fact his expression is not dissimilar to the one I've been wearing for about a fortnight now. I call it my IthinktheskymightbefallingistheskyfallingIthinkitsfalling face.

Small spaces

These pictures, along with this article, made vivid by memories of this holiday, combined with 1000 square feet of cold, rubble-strewn rooms have me longing for the smallest and cosiest of spaces to live in. Spaces where each object and each belonging is chosen with care for space is the commodity you have the least of. Spaces where relationships are closer, clutter is less and decisions are fewer.

rabtz

In obsessively scouring Design*Sponge looking for a little inspiration for our little home, I came across this little home. This little home with rabtz.

So the boy and I aren't nearly hip enough for all that orange and vintage formica but I love anyway. Because there are rabtz. And because they have made the place very very their own, which is what we want to do with our house. And because there are rabtz. With their own little specially designed bunny box. Note to self: find a less visually offensive house for the rabbit.

This place belongs to Kristen of deluxa and her musicy boyfriend. And their rabtz.

au revoir

Things are going to be a little quiet here at Peonies and Polaroids for the next week. Life is hectic hectic. I had all sorts of fancy ideas about scheduled posts but they fell by the wayside in all of the madness. So I leave you with a picture of The Rabbit. Just because.

Be back next week, my petite filous

kisses.

(um, yeah. I deleted the previous post and with it all of your lovely comments. my bad. I'll put it back soon, and explain.)

smooches

smooches for you. bunny smooches. because I'm all out of words today.

(although, do these bunnies with their red eyes look a little like they have myxi to you? but they can't have myxi, they're smooching, which means they're happy bunnies, so shall we all just carry on and pretend that the rabbit lover didn't just bring up myxomatosis? good, agreed.)
